The First Response to Temptation is Always Wrong!

6 And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen? 7 If thou doest well , shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well , sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him. 8 And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him. - Genesis 4:6-7

OBSERVATION QUESTIONS:
1) How did the Lord show His compassion for Cain?
2) How many times did the Lord give Cain to present an acceptable sacrifice to Himself?
3) How did the Lord tell Cain to overcome his angry feelings?
4) What did God warn Cain of if he did not resist his anger?
5) What did Cain do, instead?

APPLICATION QUESTIONS:
1) Have you recently been angry with anyone?
2) If so, what did you do to rule over those feelings?
3) Have you ever "murdered" (or destroyed) another person emotionally with your words?
4) If so, what did you to restore a God-honoring relationship with that individual?
5) What temptation are you facing today and how will you deal with it?

LIFE LESSONS:
1) The Lord always provides a way to escape the temptation to disobey Him.
2) The Lord always provides His people a chance to do what is "right" in His sight.
3) It is never the Lord's will that His children be ruled by our emotions, but by His Spirit.
4) With every decision is a choice to follow our own way or God's way.
